We couldn't get out our drive this morning, when the rain eased up, took an hour or so for the water levels to drop. Boss did a runner into the drain, slipped off the track, imagine a Remuera shopping basket pulling out a 3 liter Toyota twin cab, shopping basket as my wagon is small 3 door 4x4. Worst part was one of our neighbors was burnt out by 8am, don't know the reason, but guessing the almighty power surge we had.

Looks a bit like the "sea" that stretched from the hills south of Woodcocks Rd to the hills north of Kaipara Flats Rd.

Hi granny, wow hope you're safe & warm there!
I got back from Levin today. Had a feeling I should go see mum so I followed thru & did. I shouldve been home yesterday, but there was no travelling!! Hell of a mess down there. More wind than rain. Every 2nd house had a tree over or fence down or something broken. The town was dead yesterday. Supermarkets had generators, they were the only things open. We had no power from 9am yesterday til 3 am this morning, so trying to organise my mum with a transistor, WITH batteries, torches candles etc was fun. They believed the power will be on shortly... instead of getting organised incase... INCASE happened

The problem with going away like that even though I knew the storm was coming I am prepared here with my goodies box, all those emergency items & little gas cookers, matches etc. To have something happen elsewhere when you need it is a pain in the a**!! Its a good learning curve for us all really,, how important it is to have these things easily accessed. Even a thermos for my coffee wouldve been nice, but no thermos

We are well set up for camping, so power cuts really don't bother us. As the house is on a hill, flooding doesn't really matter too much, besides we have a 12' tinny If power is off too long we just toss a couple of duvets over the freezer, everything remains frozen for 5 or 6 days that way.

Looks a bit like the "sea" that stretched from the hills south of Woodcocks Rd to the hills north of Kaipara Flats Rd. More of an inland lake .. will go down pretty quickly though.
