Hi adell, I am on Linux currently, myself. I use Kubuntu, Hardy Heron here as well. This machine is a Pentium III 700mhz, and yes I can surf, view video, etc. etc.
Nothing to download? what exactly are you looking for? I might be able to help. Kubuntu's Adept graphic package manager has all sorts of options for things to do. I see complaints about Adept from people online, but I haven't noticed any problem yet, just may not be enuf of a power user to notice, LOL. I'm not sure what the equivalent would be in Ubuntu. I also found it greatly helpful to get the StumbleUpon toolbar for Firefox, and stumble pages about Linux software, too. That was where I found Ultimatix, a software installer preloaded with access to multimedia repositories that Adept didn't have. You can always add repositories to your list on either one, but first you have to find what you're wanting and what the repository name is online; this made it easy for the ones it included, which were good, you just click on what you want and it installs. I can even do Yahoo! Messenger with many features not included in other IM clients that talk to Yahoo like Trillian, with an IM client I found called GyachI-enhanced. It took some doing to install, but works pretty great.
