I think the population has changed a lot since '64. In '64 there were no dairy farms or deer farms in the Mackenzie

we went by bus Queenstown to Christchurch...over the crown range, and through the MacKenzie country...was just desolate...not much to comment on , ...but lovely in it's own way...similar to desert road around waiouru in the nth island in some ways...

I remember 20 yrs ago going for a drive & finding some old goldfields up from Alexandra somewhere Up above the clouds it seemed lol Very pretty countryside down there Just been checking out fares for April. Seems cheap on the ferry for vehicle & the four of us Total Booking Cost: $488.00 So now we are getting keen, Northland or Otago / Fiordland Decisions, decisions

Rock wren...taken from thread in sc about McKenzie country... www.smilecity.co.nz/Community/ForumPost.aspx?topicid=179073&page=2MetalMike 15/03/2009 11:27:32 PM Yup that's the one.. They're hilarious little things.. No real tail feathers that you can see and they blast round all over the place.. There was one on the clothesline at the hut and then it went off running/flying up and down the side of a tree.. Report this post wren22nz 15/03/2009 11:31:25 PM Nuts. Wrens are nuts! MetalMike 15/03/2009 11:39:00 PM You can just see the hut in the middle slightly back from the edge of the bush.. Riiight in the back.. Sorry I didn't get any pics of the wren.. Report this post wren22nz 15/03/2009 11:53:42 PM Huxley Forks Hutý? Report this post MetalMike 15/03/2009 11:54:54 PM Yep. You know it? Report this post wren22nz 15/03/2009 11:55:43 PM No. I was looking up the area on google.maps ... to try and find the hut which I still can't see. Report this post wren22nz 15/03/2009 11:56:13 PM From the map, I can see that it is right on the edge of the bush, but it doesn't help. Report this post Does this help? wren22nz 16/03/2009 12:02:55 AM Ah! There it is! Back to the first picture. Is the hut really really small, to the right of the back-most stretch of tussock? Report this post MetalMike 16/03/2009 12:04:37 AM Yep I think so.. Those pictures were taken from the same spot BTW.. Just using no zoom for one and full zoom for the other.. So you should be able to follow the line of the creek bank to reference it.. Report this post wren22nz 16/03/2009 12:06:49 AM Ah yep! But I don't feel so bad not spotting it. It's a spot!
