Due to doctors orders I have to give up the coffee. I am trying herbal teas as a replacement. Do you know of any good ones I could try?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on your tastes...i prefer things like Lipton lemon Soother, i'm quite tarty so i like tangy ones. There are Red Seal teas that have a huge range of different sorts like Black Adder, Peppermint, Rooibos tea (blerkkk). I quite like 'lemon and green tea' from Bell Or Red Seal too. Green tea aids with digestion, the japanese drink it with their main meals.

I like Healtheries Blackcurrant with Apple & Elderberry - found on the supermarket shelves.
It will be hard to give up cold turkey on coffee though - you might have tremors etc. Better to cut down by 1 or 2 cups a day (depending on how many you used to drink)until you are weaned off altogether.
It may also help to have a glass of water after the coffee to put the fluid back into your body as coffee is a diuretic which could be why your Dr has said stop drinking it!
Good Luck.

What is the reason given for giving up coffee?
Some herbal teas still contain caffeine.
Yerbe Matte is chockful of more caffeine than coffee.
Celestial Seasonings, sells it as Morning Thunder, which should be a clue.
Ginseng tea is nice. Celestial Seasonings has Tension Tamer with ginseng.

I was having irregular heart beats and the doctor put it down to to much caffeine.. Spent yesterday on an ECG and that showed up nothing. Stress levels have been high as well and I was having coffee to sooth the nerves.

Have you tried things more similar to coffee?
- Ecco
- Caro
- Inka
These items are made from powder rather than leaves, and can be drunk with milk (and sweetener if you wish), so in those senses they are more like coffee, but without the caffeine.

* Ditto * wren's post.
I have a few drinks of coffee a day. They are usually black pot coffee.
In between them I drink Ecco, or Caro if I can afford it that week lol!
I decided myself some years ago that I was having too much caffeine.
Mama may say bleerk at Rooibos !
Rooibos is Red Bush.
I started drinking Red Bush over 6-7 years ago HC, to cut down on my caffeine intake.
As far as I know, Red Bush is the only herb tea you can put milk in.
It is also low in Tannin and Caffeine.
It is high in mineral content.
I have at least 2 mugs of Red Bush a day, it is my first morning cuppa.
To start with I didn't like it much, I presevered and got to like it.
I like it much better without milk in.. just black.
( Oh, and the side effects of drinking Red Bush are, now I HATE ordinary tea! It always tastes stewed to me, even when it's freshly made!)

I like some herb teas very much, but herb tea preferences are very subjective.
I'd recommend trying a sampler pack for each brand that makes them, where you get several flavours in a box. Otherwise if you pick ones you don't like, you get a lot of leftover bags.

Please excuse me for saying so HC, to me you have always had a bit of a problem with flying off the handle pretty quickly.
You don't seem to be able to handle any stress at all.
Maybe you should get your blood pressure checked?
Learning something like meditation to calm and centre yourself could help too.
Good luck.

I used to be like that but lately I think I have been good and have made improvements in that area. Please tell me if you think that is not that case. Also so remember I have given up smoking earlier this year as well and this can cause issues to the health in the short term As for the blood pressure that is all good.

If you try coffee substitutes, please do NOT make the mistake of comparing them to coffee. They have a taste all their own and should be appreciated for their differences.

Not all supermarkets stock all of them, but most would have at least some, and you can usually find all by trying two or three supermarkets.
All the best.

what about decaf coffee
they are much better than they used to be and some say even taste similar
although when I tried it - that was not the case.!!
but seriously - I did the caffine free thing a few years back
I find the orange and some of the raspberry style teas nice - I don't make it too strong (without milk)- and one teabag can be used a couple of times
the supermarkets have a huge range these days

what about decaf coffee (Lebe)
Decaffeinated beverages still contain significant amounts of caffeine, though it is much reduced.
And though there are a variety of processes used to take most of the caffeine out, some of them are not so good.

um - Wren - when I drank decaf - it definately had NO caffine - not reduced! so is that false advertising?
wren22nz
4/10/2008 10:08:47 AM
Yes, it probably is false advertising, though I don't know the legal level that is acceptable before you can make the claim to have none.
This article is from the Science Daily website:
Decaffeinated Coffee Is Not Caffeine-free, Experts Say
Quoting a small part:
"If someone drinks five to 10 cups of decaffeinated coffee, the dose of caffeine could easily reach the level present in a cup or two of caffeinated coffee," said co-author Bruce Goldberger, Ph.D., a professor and director of UF's William R. Maples Center for Forensic Medicine. "This could be a concern for people who are advised to cut their caffeine intake, such as those with kidney disease or anxiety disorders."

Heres a nice drink
Tablespoon of honey, Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, cup of water.
Drink hot or cold. It's a nice tonic. I like the taste.
Could also try lemon juice instead of the cider vinegar.
I wouldn't use other types of vinegar, but the apple cider vinegar is nice. The honey counters the tartness.
