ISSUE 53 - 18/06/08
Welcome to Issue 53 of Current Lines
BIG B.O.P. BROADBILL; Congratulations to the team on Noelani fishing out from Tauranga on 30th May. Angler M. Tatton captured a magnificent gladiator of the deep with his broadbill weighing in at 223.60kg. The fish was hooked at 7.00pm, jumping right next to the boat and was boated 90 minutes later.
Late season happenings; Capt. Bucko reports that he was out hapuka fishing in 200 meters off Cape Brett (the old Queens Buoy foul) when they hooked a striped marlin on a live bait on a puka rig. It got tangled on the main line which broke but the fish jumped next to the boat to qwell any doubts about what had dealt to them! There have also still been skippies right in at pig gully next to the hole in the rock and just north of Stevies on the line with Berghans so don’t pack up the gear just yet. 2 stripies were taken off Karikari over Queen's Birthday weekend (one by Predator) and mahimahi were reported by Reel Passion.
Satellite Tagging update; The ITM Fishing Show will air footage of marlin satellite tagging on 21 June on TV3 at 4:30pm. This should include footage of a striped marlin being satellite tagged with a spear gun, as well as an animation of one of the marlin tracks from this season at Waihau Bay. This marlin was transmitting good data until about a week ago, but the battery was near failure so it is touch and go if we'll get any more location data from that fish. So, once again - the spear tagging episode is screening on Saturday the 21st June on TV 3 at 4:30. Replaying on Sky Sport as follows: Sunday 22 June 20:00 Sky Sport 1, Wednesday 25 June 06:30 Sky Sport 2, Thursday 26 June 08:30 Sky Sport 2, Thursday 26 June 22:30 Sky Sport 2.
