For someone like me the presence of an unattended perfume counter means only one thing - I can take a whiff of all the “fragrances” unobserved which means that if I don’t like how they smell I can make “that face”. It’s the same face I make when I see something unredeemably ugly, like the Rebel Sport building on Colombo St. “Why,” I thought to myself, “what a wonderful opportunity to sniff Mariah Carey”. Celebrity endorsement of fragrance is nothing new. Everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Catherine Zeta Jones to Hilary freakin’ Duff has their own scent.
