Bay of Islands Vintage Railway is driving ahead with the second of what is now an annual event on the Northland calendar - Concert At The Station, set for Sunday, January 31.
Performers will strut their stuff on the Kawakawa Railway Station platform for audiences who bring their own seating to watch from the railway tracks.
There will also be seating available in carriages along the fenceline of the station yards.
"This year we will have a cover to ward off either the sun or the rain so that will add to the comfort as well as the ambience for the event," says organiser Frank Leadley.
The concert, from 3pm to 6pm, features a wide range of Northland talent including rising young Kerikeri singing stars Lucy Shand and Jordan Westerland and Martin Brooks on the clarinet, country and western singers Peter Rawlings, Annette Hawkins and Kim Copedo, the Red Arrows brass quintet - jazz, the exciting Mirage group, and Dalmatian rock from Ivo Yelavich.
Entry fees are paid at the gate and cost $10 for adults, $5 for under-12s, and with a $25 family maximum.
"There will be something for everyone - great music, a unique venue, and a fantastic atmosphere.
"Raffles, sausage sizzle and drinks will be available, and the Platform Diner will be open before, during and after the concert.
"We hope that Northland will get behind this fundraising effort for the Vintage Railway and a have a great time in the process," says Frank.
"The railway now runs regular trains through to the picnic destination at Taumarere, an historic and beautiful spot where people can get off the train for a quick look around or stay for a picnic and catch the next train back to Kawakawa."
Trains run every day at 10.45am, noon, 1.15pm and 2.30pm.
All day tickets cost $10 for an adult and $5 for a child. This means passengers can get a train to Taumarere, have a picnic and take another train back.
Work at Taumarere has involved shifting the old station building back and building a large new platform to accommodate a new return track. There are six barbecue tables that can seat 48 people, and there is a pit toilet.
The privet and rubbish has been removed but the native trees and shrubs and the magnificent old oaks remain.
Attractive landscaping has started with more planting in autumn.
Other work still to be done includes the construction of a large barbecue, a photographic display of old and new Taumarere inside the station building, completion of the picket fence, installation of a rainwater tank, and hand-washing facilities.
